In July 1960, at the age of 26, Jane Goodall traveled from England to what is now Tanzania and ventured into the little-known world of wild chimpanzees. Equipped with little more than a notebook, binoculars, and her fascination with wildlife, Jane Goodall braved a realm of unknowns to give the world a remarkable window into humankind’s closest living relatives. Through nearly 60 years of groundbreaking work, Dr. Jane Goodall has not only shown us the urgent need to protect chimpanzees from extinction; she has also redefined species conservation to include the needs of local people and the environment. Today she travels the world, speaking about the threats facing chimpanzees and environmental crises, urging each of us to take action on behalf of all living things and planet we share.

Jane Goodall Institute France joins PLANET 2030. Jane Goodall Institute France is part of the Jane Goodall Institute, a global community conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall. By protecting chimpanzees and inspiring people to conserve the natural world we all share, the organization improves the lives of people, animals and the environment. Everything is connected—everyone can make a difference.

Created by the Jane Goodall Institute France, the Eloquence Competition for Sustainable Peace, transmitting Jane Goodall’s voice for the decades to come, aims to be a platform for the themes of biodiversity conservation and peace.

This competition stands out both for its subject, its impact, and its prizes.

In this anxiety-inducing period, for young people (and others!) due to the climate crisis, the decline in biodiversity, the geopolitical situation, such a competition is particularly important. Understanding the issues, wanting to address them, devising solutions: ACTING is THE answer for all. So why the theme of Peace? Because hope requires reflection and action. And because words are powerful, and inspiring speeches are necessary.

The impact of this eloquence competition begins from day one. Every registration counts: for each student registered, the Jane Goodall Institute France plants a tree, and for each participating school/university, the Institute raises awareness in a school in Tanzania where each student will plant a tree.

Its prizes are unique! Opportunities to meet inspiring personalities, the chance to voice opinions to international policymakers, coaching with dedicated teams, and access to a unique certificate.

EcoLearning Together has been working on addressing the climate crisis through restoration in urban ecosystems for more than three years. We are a youth-led organization dedicated to tackling climate change inequality by keeping our cities litter free, removing harmful invasive species, and reintroducing native plants that foster biodiversity. As a youth for youth nonprofit, our chapters work all over the world to clean up these ecosystems and protect biodiversity so youth of all ages can thrive. We are all volunteer run and student run !

EcoLearners chapters hope to launch events and ‘open mic’ sessions where young environmental activists, students, and professionals can come together on their perspectives of the climate crisis. This will be a multi-location session, and we hope to launch more than fifteen of these throughout the year around the globe!

The New York City EcoLearning Together Chapter hosted an open mic in late June, where participants presented any artistic work (speeches, poems, songs, art, etc)  centered around an environmental issue of their choice. There will be more of these to come.

Similarly, the Cross River, Nigeria chapter has hosted a recycled art exhibit, where students first participate in a litter removal event, and turn trash they found into recycled art. We hope to use these events to remove at least half a ton of trash in the Cross River urban area.
